Corruption as a Current Event in Texas Government essay
Harold Lasswell was right in his definition of politics. It is because many individuals who hold influential positions in many countries put their interest ahead instead of representing the majority in a proper way. Texas is one country which is experiencing such as the issue with corruption being on the rise. Leaders use their power to make themselves rich without considering the needs of other people. In this paper, I will, therefore, summarize the article and critically evaluate it with reference to corruption as a current event in Texas.
In the article, "Why is Public Corruption so Common in South Texas?" it is illustrated that many of the main officials frequently face criminal charges. For instance, in Crystal City, the city manager, mayor, and other three members were faced with bribery and conspiracy schemes. These leaders take bribes to promote unlawful gambling operations and also to employ inexperienced people. They also do so to allow trading of drugs which is unlawful. In this case, many people are left poor because many job opportunities are given to the few in the societies.
Therefore, it is evident to say that as claimed by Harold Lasswell, most leaders in Texas are being driven by their civil positions (DeLeon 45). They know that they are responsible for running the operations of the city or state hence use their power to get what they want at any time using their own methods. They do not consider the opinions of the public who elected them into those positions. It has hence resulted in the creation of social classes in Texas because the rich continue to be rich which the poor continue to become poorer. It is because they control the development of the economy in the state. ......GET A PLAGIARISM FREE COPY
