False truths refer to ideas or items believed by many people to be true, but in the real sense they are false and cannot be backed up with hard evidence. In most cases, it becomes difficult to determine whether the truthfulness of the idea raised since it is subtle. It has become easy to push a false agenda and sell it to the unsuspecting people in a well-packaged manner that they will not suspect it is untrue (Mehta 2). The internet and various other modern forms of communication have become the key drivers for the false truths in this generation. It has become easy to construct a false truth even that which touches on a community or national identity of a people and their culture (Staples 9). Movies, for instance, have advanced false truths over and over with only the original members of the community and a few who research about the community understanding that it is an illusion.
Padmaavat is an Indian movie produced in 2018 after delays due to controversies that led to protests in India. The epic drama directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali was heavily protested by a section of Muslims and Rajputs who say that their image was presented in a wrong way. The film tells of the 14th-century Muslim ruler Khilji who attacks a kingdom to quest his lust for the queen, Padmavati, belonging to the Hindu Rajput’s origin (Staples 10).
