Decision-Making Assignment

 

Non-rational decision-making is common in our everyday lives. We are required to make sound decisions with limited time, alternatives, and resources. Hence, it makes sense to use your gut feeling or the satisficing strategy to ensure that you make the best decision within the constraints. There are numerous instances in which I have had to make non-rational decisions. The most recent one is when I was hiring a person from within the firm to fill in a sales position. I utilized my gut feeling since there were several options on the table. But, time was not on my side because I had only a few days to fill the vacancy and train the individual for an upcoming event that would take place in a different country. My intuition allowed me to gauge the person’s sales proficiency amidst all the documentation and the individual’s expertise in the sales and marketing field. I felt that the person was the right fit for the company’s assignment and surely I have not regretted the decision ever since.  

            With adequate time and resources, I would have used the rational decision-making process. The procedure would have enabled me to gauge the candidates efficiently. Using the rational-decision making process, I would have identified the opportunity/problem, the different alternatives, the best course of action, and the implementation of the option. The process would have required me to highlight the gaps in the sales department that the applicant would have to fill. The firm required an employee with international sales skills and knowledge to manoeuvre the dynamic global marketing arena. Secondly, I would have critically evaluated each candidate for the job and ranked them according to the best fit for the position (Kaufmann, Wagner & Carter, 2017). The process would have required lengthy interviews, simulations, proficiency tests, and academic certificates. The candidate with the highest points would have been the preferred option, who may or may have been the same person I chose for the sales position.
