The various techniques that can be employed as part of coping activities and during the process of information seeking include dream therapy, music therapy, relaxation, friends or social support and hobbies (Millner et al., 2015). In this paper, I will provide an explanation of how each strategy or technique works and further highlight on my experience with relaxation therapy. Besides, I will focus on two other techniques that I wish to try.
To begin with, social support from friends and family is an important resource for coping. Individuals can obtain advice from other people and the friends can provide the emotional support (Feeney & Collins, 2015). It has been shown that people who have access to high level of social support are likely to experience less anxiety, depression and stress. People whom lack strong social support and friendship cannot cope effectively. Another technique of coping is music therapy. The use of music as a strategy of coping is very crucial since it improves health and functionality. In music therapy, music is employed to enhance both mental as well as physical health. Music therapy works through music experiences to improve cognitive functioning, the quality of life as well as enhancing sensory and social skills (Chen et al., 2016). There are receptive (people take part in creating instrumental music) and active (listening to music) kinds of music therapy.
In addition, dream therapy is a coping technique and also a source of information seeking. Dream therapy is a technique that involves the change of profoundly entrenched unconscious designing through dreams (Nelson & Burke, 2018). Dream therapy works by using dreams to find out the issues facing people and provide healing by analyzing the written dreams. Dream therapy entail keeping diaries and analyzing dreams. Besides, relaxation techniques are the most important coping activities. Relaxation works by the use of various strategies such as guided imagery, breathe focus, yoga, repetitive prayer and meditation to evoke relaxation response and thereby reducing stress. Furthermore, hobbies are part of strategies in information seeking and coping activities. Hobbies involve taking part in activities that are of interest to the individual during leisure time and thus bring about reduction in stress and anxiety (Jackson, Antonucci & Gibson, 2018).
