#1Betsy is a candidate for a promotion opportunity at her workplace. The job will involve intensive traveling for the next eighteen to twenty-four months. However, she has discovered she is pregnant and that she will need a four months leave five months into the job. She has a dilemma on whether or not to tell her boss before he chooses the employee for the job. Betsy has sought advice from her husband, friend and mother but she still feels like a fraud is she does not tell her boss in time. So should Betsy tell Tom, her boss, she is pregnant?
On a personal opinion, I believe that Betsy should take her friend’s view. According to her mother’s reasoning, Betsy sister was prone to miscarrying which could be a similar case for Betsy. Besides, it increases the chance of her losing a career opportunity. Nonetheless, these possibilities are not likely for Betsy. Tom is a good boss. He may not discriminate her from the promotion due to her pregnancy. It is not also guaranteed that Betsy will have a miscarriage like her sister. Thus, she should first talk to her sister about her situation then design the appropriate communication plan to tell Tom.
Betsy is a committed and hardworking employees. Her working values make her the most appropriate candidate for the job. Besides, the husband’s working schedule makes balancing work and life more manageable for Betsy. Taking all these factors into consideration, Betsy should talk to Tom. She should present her case and provide all the reasons why she is still the best candidate for the job. It will enable Tom to make an informed decision, and if he still chooses Betsy, he can also account for her replacement during her maternal leave. It promotes ethics and transparency in the workplace. ............GET A PLAGIARISM FREE COPY
