Logical error -Case Critique
Logical error -Case Study
Logical error can also be referred to as flaw in thinking. The first logical error in this case study is committed by Rachel. She thinks that voting the change would annoy Tom instead of coming up with a logical reason for voting the change. Rachel is mainly concerned with Ton’s actions rather than a good reason to vote the change. The second logical error is committed by Nicole. Nicole is against the change just because she thinks Mary will date the boss. She does not consider other factors for voting against the change.
The ethical standard that may be called into question by this error is conflict of interest. Conflict of interest occurs when employees prioritize their interests in matters related to the organization (Davis, 2019). Nicole and Rachel are acting just to please themselves. They are not necessarily concerned about the impact of the policy to the organization. Nicole’s aim is to spite Tom while Rachel’s aim is to stop Mary from dating the boss. Nicole and Rachel are going to make decisions based on their interest in the policy. They do not consider the overall organization to see whether it will benefit from the change in policy or not. Employees in organizations ought to avoid conflict of interest.
To remedy the situation, I would advise Nicole and Rachel to settle their personal differences with Mary and Tom rather than applying them in the organization policies. Doing this will help them establish health relationships with their workmates. I will also advise them to be objective in matters relating to the organization. Objectivity is key in helping organizations attain their goals. I will inform Nicole and Rachel that the policies are likely to impact the organization in a long-term manner and they should come up with better reasons against or for the change.
