Organizations require adequate office space to run their operations. The design of offices should be in such a way it allows people to work independently and without feeling like they need more space. Offices should be structured such that the working space is just enough for employees (Lah, Mohmmed, & Asmoni, 2015). Too small working spaces may limit employees and may even pose a danger to their lives. Too large offices may be considered a waste of resources. At my organization, there are too large office spaces. Additionally, every assistant to an executive has their own office. In my opinion, I consider this a waste of resources.
Too large offices may not be economic to my organization because so much space goes to waste. The offices can be designed in such a way which creates more space that can be leased to other organization. This will ultimately generate revenue for the organization. In addition, having too many office spaces results in uneconomic use of resources (Lah, Mohmmed, & Asmoni, 2015). For example, each office requires their copiers, printers, and telephones. This leads to increased costs for the organization. If every office assistant should operate with their supervisors in the same office space, then such costs can be reduced.
Another problem I have noted at my organization is that there are some unoccupied offices that are fully furnished. In my view, this is a total waste of resources. Although organization should always leave room for expansion and growth, it should not be overdone. Adequate space for such growth should be left (Lah, Mohmmed, & Asmoni, 2015). Organizations should ensure that no resources go to waste as this reduces their efficiency. Care should be taken in the acquiring of resources to reduce organizational expense.
