Corporations are facing highly dynamic and competitive markets and many of them are taking bold moves to stay ahead of their rivals. One key change witnessed over the years is restructuring or reorganization (Kotter, 2013). We have companies like Zappos and Google that have completely eliminated the traditional hierarchical system to give way to holacracy, a system with no job titles that encourages participation and caters to the needs of the Generation Y. I am a member of a company that has grown immensely over time. Consequentially, the senior executive’s span of control has become too large for him to effectively maintain. What was once a twenty-member firm, is now a 98-member institution with numerous business operations. The company has to be restructured to reduce the span of control so that the manager can keep up with everything and provide adequate attention to his workers.
The team that was under the senior executive has to split into three based on the work that each employee does, and I will be given a chance to lead one group. Using the four-frame model, the change agents must address the structural, human resource, political, and symbolic frames of the organization. They will evaluate how the firm works in terms of the processes and systems, resources, physical structure, and technology to identify the appropriate way to reorganize the teams and organizational resources (Bolman & Deal, 2013). The change agents, who will mainly consist of the managers, several employees, and investors, will also examine the responses of the human resources, the power players driving the decision-making, and frame used to symbolize the organization (Trapp, 2016).
