“The night face up.” is a short story created by Julio Cortazar. It brings out the story of an individual who experiences tough situations in the dream as well as real world. The book utilizes different styles to ensure that the message is understood by readers. The book contains a lot of information that deserves brainstorming. Life can be unpredictable and harsh which challenges human beings to welcome situation to ensure that they live peacefully.
As mentioned earlier, the book the book has a character. It comes out that the individual encounters a motorcycle accident that leaves him admitted in hospital. He then dreams that he is a Motecas that is being chased by the Aztec community. It is evident that in the real world life is tough and the situation is almost worse in the dream world (Cortázar 69). In the end, he is captured and killed by the Aztecs since they have historically been known to kill and sacrifice the Motecas to their gods.
“It comes out that life can be mysterious and unpredictable.” The plot of the story brings out the sequence of events which brings out the experiences of the author. The author has no control of the events that especially occur in his dreams. He claims that, “It was unusual as a dream because it was full of smells and he never dreamt smells,” (69). Here, the tone is disgust. The dream was mysterious and out of his control. According to the book, “’dreams can take us to amazing but sometimes frightening places.” The idea can be seen in the setting of the story. The author utilizes an environment where the character is chased by uncivilized people. “What tormented him the most was the odor.” (69). Imagery comes in since a reader’s sense of smell is engaged in the example presented. The book brings out the question “what is real and what isn’t real?” It can be seen that what is real or fake is not important because the author suffers in real life as well as in his dream.
