Recently, the assistant information technology (IT) assistant was fired after a six months unspoken conflict with the department manager. The IT assistant had gone through a series of interviews and did exemplary well gauging from the results of the interview. The IT department manager was handpicked by the general manager of the big firm. The assistant was given a twelve months contract after which the organization would renew depending on his performance. The assistant offered a lot of support in the organization being involved in key decision-making processes on what to procure for the firm. However, all this while his immediate boss, the department head felt that the assistant was receiving much recognition than him.
He went to the GM and the human resource manager to have his contract terminated. The assistant learned of the deal and informed a few of his friends in the organization thus leading to a go slow and things went back to normal after a while. However, during the appraisal, the IT manager rated his assistant poorly thus leaving the human resource manager with no choice but to lay him off. The conflict between the two was a superiority rivalry, and the manager felt that his assistant was getting smarter by the day an incident that would cost him the job.
The incident would not have escalated to those extremes if everyone remained in their position. The manager delegated too much work to the assistant such that he remained anonymous to other departments that IT support. If the manager had taken up his leadership position, it would have solved the issue (Saundry et al., 102). The assistant after receiving much recognition, he failed to observe the first law of power of remaining faithful and submissive to the immediate authority.
